UMBWE ROUTE 6 DAYS

ARRIVAL

We’ll pick you up at Kilimanjaro International Airport and take you to your hotel. There you’ll meet your guide and together you’ll review your gear to check you have everything you need.

DAY 1

This is day one of your hike and we’ll head to Umbwe Gate early. There you’ll meet your porters, guides, and cooks who will spend the next six days with you. You’ll sign in before starting your trek to Umbwe Cave Camp. This trek will take six hours and you’ll follow a steep path through moss-covered trees in Kilimanjaro’s cloud forest.

DAY 2

You’ll hike towards Barranco camp on your second day hiking. Barranco is one of the most scenic camps on this route. It’s surrounding by giant senecio and lobelias. You’ll hike for around seven hours this day.

DAY 3

This day will involve a scramble up Barranco Wall. This is hard but you won’t hike for longer than five hours. You’ll end your day in Karanga Valley at 4,200 meters.

DAY 4

On your fourth day of hiking you’ll pass several of Kibo’s glaciers to get to Bafafu camp at 4,600 meters. You’ll get an early night ahead of summit day.

DAY 5

Your fifth day of hiking is summit day! You’ll start bright and early at 12 am and you’ll reach the summit (Uhuru Peak 5,895 meters) around six hours later. From the top you’ll have time to take photos and enjoy your achievement before we head down again to Barafu for breakfast. We’ll then go all the way to Mweka at 3,100 meters.

DAY 6

You’ll finish your experience with a hike to Mweka gate where we’ll pick you up and take you back to Moshi.
